2025 Tax Tips for Foster and Adoptive Families - Session 1 Location: Virtual Training
Attend to learn about the various tax deductions and credits that parents can receive from having a foster child placed with them. Congress has passed a new tax bill that will affect tax laws in 2025.  As a foster, kinship, or adoptive parent, you may be eligible for several tax benefits, including the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and the Child and Dependent Care Credit. For the 2025 tax year, all those credit amounts have been increased.
For 2025, there has been a significant change to the adoption credit, which is now partially refundable. You could receive up to $5000 as a refund per child that was adopted in 2025, even if you have no earned income.
The presenter will be Lin Leclair, EA, Owner of 1st Choice Tax Services Inc., a Tucson-based tax firm that specializes in foster and adoptive tax laws. She is a prior kinship and foster parent. Lin is also an adoptive parent.
